The Loan

Read the story first: The Loan.

Nugget of Wisdom

You will always be watched. Diligence reaps reward.

First General Order

Before beginning, come together as a group to briefly discuss prayer needs and pray for God's guidance, wisdom, and protection over this time.

Mission

Think back to a time in your childhood, typically between the ages of 10 and 13, when you showed initiative, determination, or took a risk to pursue something important to you. It may have been something others doubted, something beyond your age or experience, or a moment where you stepped forward when others would not. These moments can be simple—a girl selling Girl Scout cookies, a boy starting a lawnmower business, someone collecting returnable cans, or any situation where effort, persistence, and desire were present. Reflect on what drove you in that moment. What did you believe about yourself? What did you want badly enough to act? Consider also whether someone stepped in along the way—someone who saw something in you and chose to trust, support, or invest in you. As you think through this, recognize how both your effort and the willingness of others can shape outcomes and opportunities in life.

Mission Execution

This is where you tell your own story. It does not have to be one centered on fear, but it should be something that affected you deeply. Allow yourself to be led, and tell the story honestly. The person listening must focus on absorbing the emotion—listening without interruption, without trying to fix it, and without analyzing it. Simply listen and absorb what the other person felt. As you tell your story, consider whether there were conflicting truths—where someone did both right and wrong—and how that shaped your beliefs, your responses, and your relationships today.

Questions

  1. If you sought something with all your heart and someone rejected you, how would you have dealt with it? And if you were successful, how would you have dealt with it?
  2. As you listened to your partner, what emotions did you sense in them beyond the words they were saying?
  3. What personality traits do you believe were revealed or strengthened in that moment of effort, risk, or opportunity?
  4. How do you respond today when someone places trust in you or gives you an opportunity—do you rise to it or hesitate?
  5. Now that you're starting to understand personalities, how can you use that skill set within your relationship?

This Week’s Mission

This week’s mission is to step into the role of a mentor. Together, identify a young person—a young man or young lady—and reach out to them. Call them and ask how they are doing and what they are planning for their future. Ask them how they intend to earn money this summer or what goals they are working toward. Encourage them to think, to plan, and to take ownership. You may choose to support them—perhaps offering to match what they earn or helping them get started—but make it clear that the responsibility to move forward rests on their shoulders. The purpose is to help develop a mindset that success is earned through effort, while also showing that guidance and support are available. As you do this, pay attention to how you lead, how you encourage, and how you invest—not only in them, but in yourselves. Enjoy the process throughout the week. Reach out, invest in someone else, and grow together through the experience.

Closing Prayer

Lord, thank you for investing in us. Give us the wisdom to know that you are, the courage to do right, and to seek you.
